On October 18, 2025, the Hart County Band Boosters will sponsor the Lake Hartwell Marching Festival and Competition. The event will be held at Hart County High School, located approximately 45 miles North of Athens, GA.

LAKE HARTWELL MARCHING FESTIVAL AND COMPETITION
On October 18, 2025, the Hart County Band Boosters will sponsor the Lake Hartwell Marching Festival and Competition. The event will be held at Hart County High School, located approximately 45 miles North of Athens, GA.
The Lake Hartwell Marching Competition as a contest but bands will have the option of performing for Comments and Ratings only. The event will have a 4-judge Olympic Style Panel for band adjudication with the lowest score being dropped. There will also be a percussion judge, a color guard judge, and a drum major judge.
The competition registration will close after the deadline of 1-October-2025 or when applications are received for the first 16 band performances, regardless of Event registered for.
Trophies will be awarded for bands, percussion, color guard, drum major, and drill team / majorette who receive superior ratings or excellent ratings during the competition. In addition to the rating awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each classification for band, color guard, drum line, drum major, drill team, and majorettes will be awarded. There will be a Silver Division Champion (A-AAA), Gold Division Champion (AAAA-AAAAA), and Grand Champion trophies. The Grand Champion trophy is awarded to the band with the highest total score including All Captions except Majorettes / Dance Team and Drum Majors, regardless of classification. RULES AND REGULATIONS
- The competition field will be the size and shape of a regulation football field with five and ten-yard lines, hash marks (53’4”), and sidelines clearly marked. There is a fence enclosing the field. The field is artificial turf.
- Bands will be classified according to the number of wind instrument players. Bands may
Class A.................up to 24 Winds
Class AA.............. 25 -49 Winds
Class AAA............ 50 -74 Winds
Class AAAA......... 75 -100 Winds
Class AAAAA.......... 101 or more winds
- Bands are scheduled at twenty-minute intervals.
- Order of performance within each class is determined by payment received postmark. Earliest postmark performs last in class. Special considerations are given when circumstances warrant such.
- All bands must perform in uniform. All band and auxiliary officers who will participate in the awards ceremony must be in uniform. Officers are to line up on the front hash mark. No other student will be permitted on the field.
- The Lake Hartwell Marching Competition uses adjudication forms for Modified Olympic style judging with a 4 judge panel. The lowest score will be dropped and the remaining three scores averaged to determine overall band score. Participation rules will parallel those of GMEA as long as Lake Hartwell Marching Competition is a GMEA sanctioned and /or approved event. Bands may choose to perform for Ratings only.

- No director, parent, or student from any participating band will be allowed in the press box.
- There will be a trophy for all superior and excellent ratings. For bands who choose Ratings only, Announcements will be ratings only. No score will be given. A full contest award ceremony will take place after the conclusion of the contest. In addition to the rating awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each classification for band, color guard, drum line, drum major, drill team, and majorettes (minimum of 3 required) will be awarded. Additionally, trophies will be awarded for the Silver Division Champion (A-AAA), Gold Division Champion (AAAA-AAAAA), and Grand Champion, the highest total score, regardless of classification. Grand Champion Score will include all captions except Majorettes / Dance Team and Drum Majors.
- Chaperones will be admitted free at the ratio of one chaperone per ten students as per GHSA policy. Performing students will receive wrist bands at bus parking. Each band will receive staff wrist bands for directors and staff.
- At the conclusion of the ceremony, all band members, parents, etc., who are not involved in the awards presentation must not enter the field area. Do not allow your students to climb the fence onto the field. This is not only for the safety of everyone, but also to preserve the dignity of those students accepting trophies for their bands.
- Comment sheets and recordings can be picked up in the pressbox immediately after the awards ceremony.
- FIREWORKS & FIRE BATONS: Because of the artificial turf field, the use of any pyrotechnics (fireworks, fire batons, rockets, flares, smoke bombs, etc.) is strictly forbidden. Violators will be disqualified from the competition.
- The Hart County High School campus (including the stadium) is a TOBACCO FREE CAMPUS.
